Feis at the Beach News:
Wildwood is a wonderful family-friendly beach town that will provide fun
opportunities before and after the feis. Mariner’s Landing Pier will be open
from 12-6 on Sat. and 11-5 on Sunday. There are multitudes of shops that will be
open on the boardwalk. Please visit our sponsor, Laura’s Fudge at 357 E.
Wildwood Ave for some sweet treats. Many of the area’s restaurants will also be
open. For those feis siblings, there is a local playground across the street
from the convention center. There is a tennis court there too if anyone wants to
try their backhand this weekend. This would also be a great day to get that
“jump at the beach” picture!
There is one main road into Wildwood and it may get backed up a bit. There is an
option of driving through North Wildwood to get to the convention center. The
convention center has a large parking lot with over 600 spaces. Parking is $5 in
the lot. There is some street parking and we were told that the meters would not
be turned on yet.
The convention hall is very large and will easily accommodate all of us. There
are over 2,000 bleacher seats (with backs) and we encourage you to use them for
camping. There will also be a limited number of chairs and tables on the floor.
Please do not bring in your own chairs. The fire marshal has been known to shut
down wrestling tournaments due to blocked walkways, so please strive to keep
these areas free. Our volunteers will be monitoring this during the day.
Please look for our volunteers with the Beach Patrol shirts if you have any
questions. We have also hired an EMT for any emergencies.
We have requested that the venue open both concession stands to accommodate the
large number of dancers and their families. They have a wide variety of foods
including healthy alternatives. the Convention Center has asked that you not
bring your own food onto the premises. There are also food choices on the
boardwalk, and benches on the boardwalk if you want to bring your own food and
picnic outside.
We will have a hallway full of vendors. There will be many familiar ones as well
as some new ones. We will release a list shortly. We can tell you that both Fays
and Rutherfords shoes will be there, as well as “Head for the Worlds”. There
will be two coat racks for hanging used dresses in the east hall.
The welcome table with dancer cards will be in the west hall. Grades’ stages,
postings and awards will also be in the west half of the convention hall. The
champion stages will be in the east half of the hall. If the weather is nice, we
will have the champ awards on the balcony overlooking the ocean. Keep your
fingers crossed!
We have eight O’Mara sprung floor stages for dancing that will start promptly at
10am. The first dancers should please begin to check in at 9:45. Lunch breaks
will occur around 1:30 to 2pm, but one set of stages will continue to run during
the break with alternating judges and musicians.
If you will be in town on Friday night, Tuckers Pub, 3301 Atlantic Ave and ½
mile from the Convention Center will be having live Irish Music from 6-10. It s
a family friendly place with great food.
The Cummins School is very excited to be hosting our first feis and are working
hard to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone!
